Independence - Lorraine F. Hanson, 93 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Lexington Estate in Independence. She was born on October 6, 1924, in Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of John James and Ruth Dette (Sjobakken) Greenslade. She graduated from high school in Cresco, Iowa. On April 10, 1963, she and Norman Lewis Hanson were married in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death in December of 2017. Mrs. Hanson was the manager of Miller Wohl Clothing in Oelwein, Iowa, before retiring in 1984. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Mrs. Hanson enjoyed playing cards (Bridge and Euchre), line dancing, and attending the dances each week at the Independence Senior Citizens Center. When she was able, she played golf and won trophies for bowling.
Mrs. Hanson is survived by 2 daughters, Ronda (Troy) Foley of Independence and Ruthann Iverson of Cresco, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 step-daughters, Peggy, Judy, Sharri, and Barb, 3 step sons, Jeff, Scott, and Marty, and their families.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, and 3 brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
