Independence – Louis A. Luckel, 90 years old, of West Branch, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on September 12, 2018, at his home. He was born on September 3, 1928, in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Louis August and Gladys Belle (Jorgensen) Luckel. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1946 and then, attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. On August 1, 1949, he and the former Eleanor Grace Spangler were married in Papillion, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 2017. Mr. Luckel was the owner and operator of Culligan Water in the Iowa City area. He retired in 1988. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Independence and the American Legion.
Mr. Luckel is survived by 3 daughters, Nancy Fraga of Iowa City, Elizabeth (Ashley) Anderson of Madison, Wisconsin, and Susan Rummells of West Branch, 1 son, Samuel (Bert) Luckel of Solon, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Lois Klink of Wheatridge, Colorado.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
