Independence – Robert D. Sprague, 74 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, July 23, 2018, at his home in Independence. He was born in Independence on November 28, 1943, the son of Gordon and Elma (Williamson) Sprague. He moved with his parents several times during his childhood and attended high school in Clear Lake, Iowa. On August 8, 1964, he and the former Veronica “Vicky” Jane King were married in Waterloo, Iowa. Mr. Sprague worked for 33 years on various production lines at the engine works at John Deere, Co., in Waterloo. Then he worked for 8 years at ModComp Homes in Independence before retiring in 2008. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #838 in Waterloo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his family’s rental property.
Mr. Sprague is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicky, 2 sons, Bob (Enrique Mukul) Sprague of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Joe (Vanessa Lee) Sprague of Quasqueton, Iowa, and 2 granddaughters, Amber Sprague and Ashley Sprague.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and relatives may gather from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 28th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence for a Celebration of Mr. Sprague’s life. A prayer service begins at 12 noon.
