Winthrop – David E. McMurrin, 64 years old, of Winthrop, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his home in Winthrop.  He was born on December 4, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Neil Grant and Doris Maria (Parshal) McMurrin.  He attended high school in Independence, Iowa, and then was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Army for 18 years and took part in the Desert Storm and Desert Shield operations.  After his release, he worked for several security companies.  On June 11, 2004, he and the former Kristine R. Murray were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  Mr. McMurrin enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, archery, and target practice.  He was a member of the N.R.A. and liked to make custom knives.

Mr. McMurrin is survived by his wife, Kristine, 3 daughters, Sonja (Jeremy) Cadovius of Charleston, South Carolina, and Shelby R. McMurrin and Alex Renee McMurrin, both of Davenport, Iowa, 1 son Doug (Susan) McMurrin of Independence and 3 step daughters, Kassie Tibbott of Royalton, Vermont, Susan Tibbott of Waterloo, Iowa, and Rachel (Kyle) Larson of State Center, Iowa.  He is also survived by 9 granddaughters, 2 sisters, Marla (Don) Bohling and Carla J. McMurrin of Jesup, Iowa, and 3 brothers, Steven (Sandra) McMurrin of Independence, Tim McMurrin of Waterloo, and Darrin (Melanie) McMurrin of Winthrop.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Doug McMurrin and Randy McMurrin.

Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 7^th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 4 p.m.  Mr. McMurrin’s cremated remains will be buried in Littleton Cemetery in Littleton, Iowa.
