Independence – Velma A. Arnold Boelter, 95 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at UPH Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born on January 11, 1923, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Harold and Mae (Gleerup) Jensen. She graduated from high school in Rowley, Iowa, with the Class of 1939. On June 24, 1945, she and Willard LeRoy Arnold were married in Rowley, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Floyd Joseph “Chesty” Boelter, and he preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Boelter was a cook for the Independence school system at the Rowley and East Elementary locations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence and she was a charter member of the 150 Club. She enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and basically, games of all kinds.
Mrs. Boelter is survived by 1 son, Charles (Linda) Arnold of Lake Placid, Florida, 1 daughter, Rosemary (Mike) Ritter of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Mildred Smith and Norma Arnold, and 3 brothers, Elmer Jensen, Don Jensen, and Everett Jensen in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4th, at the funeral home.
