Independence – Glenys M. Derr, 81 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein, Iowa. She was born on April 4, 1936, in Linn County, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Raymond and Zillah Mary (Fairchild) Ralston.  She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1954.  On September 21, 1956, she and Gordon William Derr were married in Independence.  He preceded her in death on February 19, 2015.  Mrs. Derr worked at the ASCS office in Independence for 22 years before retiring in 2001.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence and the Independence bowling leagues.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, and especially time spent with her grandchildren and her family.

Mrs. Derr is survived by 2 daughters, Lori (Dennis) Hildebrand of Newton, Iowa, Debra (Norman) Mills of Independence, 1 son, Doug (Lori) Derr of Independence, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wed., Apr. 4^th, at the church.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
