Independence – Delores “Dee” Elaine Jacobs, 89 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  She was born on November 29, 1928, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Blanch (Shillington) Strawn.  She graduated from high school in Oelwein with the Class of 1947.  On March 1, 1948, she and Howard Lenius were married in Oelwein.  They later divorced.  On August 18, 1973, she and Everett “Jake” Jacobs were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He preceded her in death in 2013.  Mrs. Jacobs worked at the Farmers State Savings Bank in Independence for a number of years.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, shopping, playing Bridge, and cross stitching.

Mrs. Jacobs is survived by 2 sons, Michael (Julie) Lenius of Independence and Marc Lenius of Waterloo, Iowa, and 4 step daughters, Pamela Hand of Peoria, Arizona, Linda (Carl) Payne of Dewey, Arizona, Rita (Angus) Macdonald of Mayer, Arizona, and Bev (Jeff) Miller of Waverly, Iowa.  She is also survived by a step sister, Barbara (Steve) Hiland of Louisville, Kentucky, 2 grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob) Beatty of Independence and Andrew (Jill) Lenius of Phoenix, Arizona, 5 step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Pauline Chase.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
