John was a log truck driver and mechanic before he retired due to health issues. He enjoyed time spent restoring tractors and cars that he collected. He was a member of the Brush Creek Canyon Cruisers. When able, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Porcia, 2 sons, Brian (Misty) Grover of Greeley, Iowa, and Brett (Cristy) Grover of Independence, 5 grandchildren, Wyatt, Morgan, and Jayden Grover of Greeley, and Addison and Caleb Grover of Independence, his father, James L. Grover of Independence, 7 sisters, Julie (Larry) Carver of Walker, Iowa, Jeanette Spears and Joan (Jeff) Wieland, both of Independence, Jane (Kurt) Rich of Vinton, Janice ( Ron) Ohl and Jalleen (Jeff Franck) Grover, both of Rowley, and Judy (Jack ) Simmons of Avondale, Arizona, and 4 brothers, Joe (Mary) Grover, Jimmy (Robin) Grover, and Mike (Brenda Youngblut) Grover, all of Rowley, and Jeff (Rose) Grover of Independence. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marge Deke of Independence, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Polly (Ron) Fank of Independence, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, 1 brother, James Grover, in infancy, his grandparents, John Devere and Martha Grover, James and Grace Morrissey, his father-in-law, Bernard Deke, high school friends, Dick Quinn and Burt Van Horn, and truck driving buddies, Richard Postel and Emil “Gramps” Tisl, Sr. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial of John’s cremated remains will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley at a later date. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. In honor of John’s life style, casual attire is encouraged. |
