Independence – Norman L. Hanson, 89 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, December 22, 2017, at ABCM Rehab. of Independence – East Campus inIndependence.  He was born on April 10, 1928, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, the son of Herman August and Helen Angelica (Ziehl) Hanson.  He graduated from high school in Menomonie.  On April 6, 1964, he and the former Lorraine Frances Greenslade were married in Galena, Illinois.  Mr. Hanson farmed, but for most of his career he was a traveling salesman for Ripon Good Cookies in Ripon, Wisconsin.  He retired in 1988.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church inIndependence.  Mr. Hanson was the type of person who was always ready to help others.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling, and dancing every Friday night.

Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Lorraine, 4 daughters, Peggy Roberson of West Des Moines, Iowa, Judy (Joe Delaney) Hanson of Red Wing, Minnesota, Sharri (Dave) Hackbarth of Winona, Minnesota, and Barb Hanson of Anchorage, Alaska, 3 sons, Jeff (Marilyn) Hanson, Scott (JoDee) Hanson, and Marty (Cris) Hanson, all of Rochester, Minnesota, 2 step daughters, Ruthie Iverson of Cresco, Iowa, and Ronda (Troy) Foley of Independence, 1 sister, Virginia Anderson of Menomonie, Wisconsin, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Rev. Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 26^th, at the White Funeral Home inIndependence
