White Funeral Home Jesup – Doris Arlene McCalley, 90 years old of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at ABCM Rehabilitation Center – West Campus in Independence, IA. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 24th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup. Memorials will be directed to the new Jesup Emergency Services construction project. Doris was born February 26, 1927, on the family farm south of Jesup in Buchanan County, IA, the daughter of George David Pooler and Ella Blanche (Beatty) Pooler. She graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1944. On August 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Chidley Glenn “Chid” McCalley at her parent’s home in Independence. They moved to Jesup in 1948 and raised their family there. Doris was a homemaker, who over the years also served as chairwoman of the Jesup Girl Scouts and was a den mother for the Jesup Cub Scouts. She also served 14 years on the Jesup Volunteer Ambulance Service. During WWII she had worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo. Doris and Chid loved to travel and saw all 50 states in the US. They enjoyed fishing, dancing and especially square dancing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup. Doris is survived by three daughters, Kathy A. Schutte of Jesup, Susan (Robert) Johnson of Glenwood, Nancy (John) Clary of Ames; two sons, David (Barb) McCalley of Nixa, MO, Darly (Diane) McCalley of Farmington, MN; also 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Chid who died on March 6, 2012, she is preceded in death by her parents; one son David Allen McCalley in infancy; and two sisters, Bertie Lou Paulus and Maxine Manson.
