Janesville - Arthur Peter Scott, 89 years old, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Janesville, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born on March 1, 1928, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Vern Albert and Opal Clair (Brimmer) Scott. He attended school in Independence. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. OnJuly 5, 1947, he and the former Ruth Nell Burgett were married in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Scott worked at the Cedar Falls Utilities in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for 31 years. He was a supervisor when he retired in 1991. He was a member of Lifeline Assembly of God in Denver, Iowa, the American Legion Post #522 in Janesville, the V.F.W. in Waverly, and he was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Janesville. Mr. Scott loved playing and joking with his grandchildren, working in his garden, and fixing mechanical problems of old cars.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth, 3 daughters, Linda Stover, Janice (John) Larsen, and Donna (Scott) White, all of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and 1 son, Robert (Kristine) Scott, MSG, USARM (RET) of North Little Rock, Arkansas. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and 1 brother, Derrell (Shirley) Scott of Burlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, 1 great grandson, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Don Diehm officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
