He farmed with his brother Warren on their parent’s farm South of Vinton, Iowa. On August 17, 1964, he married Charlene (Wilt, Gustafson) in Valentine, NE. In 1970, he purchased a farm East of Independence and farmed until retiring in 1991. Wayne was always known for having a perfectionist nature, where he worked tirelessly to keep his row-crops straight and clean, cattle in prime condition, every piece of equipment and every building on the farm in pristine condition.
Wayne was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence. He was also active with the Independence Lions Club and was a lifetime member of the Bechter-Boies VFW Post #2440.
After the passing of Charlene on September 06, 2010, he married Betty Jean (Greenwood) on October 15, 2011, and resided inIndependence until his passing.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Betty, three stepsons from his marriage to Charlene; Gary (Barbara) Gustafson of Vinton, IA, David Gustafson of Kuna, ID, and Alan (Leane) Gustafson of Lakefield, MN. Additionally, he is survived by four stepsons from his marriage to Betty; Steven (Pamela) Greenwood of Viroqua, WI, David (Sherrie) Greenwood of Petersburg, IL, William (Darlene) Greenwood of Winthrop, IA, Eric (Tonya) Greenwood of Rowley, IA; and four stepdaughters; Rebecca (Richard) Kimmerle of Chino Valley, AZ, Barbara (John) Fischels of Independence, IA, Melissa (Thomas) Franck of Rio Hondo, TX, Jennifer (Phillip) McAtee of Jesup, IA, and many grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Lois (Stueck) of Grimes, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marvel (Fett), one brother, Warren, his first wife, Charlene, his son, Kevin, and one stepdaughter Susan (Greenwood) Stelter.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until8p.m. on Monday, May 15th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m. |
