White Funeral Home Jesup – Roland G. “Frenchy” Cayouette, 76 of Jesup, IA, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at ABCM Rehabilitation Center’s West Campus in Independence, IA. He was born December 29, 1940, in Berlin, New Hampshire the son of Roch Leonce Cayouette and Therese Antoinette (Brunelle) Cayouette. He graduated from high school in Berlin and soon entered the United States Air Force until his discharge in 1964. It was while he was stationed in Alaska that he met his bride and on April 18, 1964, he and Marianne Orr were married in the chapel at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. They moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where Roland did a machinist apprenticeship with Pratt and Whitney. In 1967 they came to Iowa and lived in Independence, later moving to the acreage near Jesup in 1973. Roland “Frenchy” then was employed by Deere & Company in Waterloo as a machinist. He retired in 1997. He was active in many civic and charitable endeavors over the years. These include, being a member of the Buchanan County Democrat Central Committee, a former board member of Veridian Credit Union, Foster Care Review Board, Operation Threshold, a foster parent to several, he also spearheaded the Knights of Columbus “Care and Share” program in Jesup, and enjoyed working as a greeter at the United Auto Workers Union 838 “Thanksgiving Dinner” event. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council 8227, and Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342, all in Jesup and the UAW Local 838 in Waterloo. Roland is survived by his wife, Marianne of Jesup; one daughter and son in law, Michelle and Donny Mangrich of Independence; three grandchildren, Decota, Ethan and Lucretia Mangrich; three brothers, Andre (Mari) Cayouette of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Arthur (Dot) Cayouette of Enfield, Connecticut, Albert (Karen) Cayouette of Milan, New Hampshire; and one sister, Louise (Robert) Pelchat, of Berlin, New Hampshire. His parents and one infant sister, Therese, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for an hour before services at the church on Friday. Memorials will be directed to the Knights of Columbus Care and Share Project in Jesup and to the Buchanan County Food Pantry. Memorials may also be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. |
