White Funeral Home HAZLETON – Ivan Newton “Bud” Boyles, 91 years old, of Hazleton, IA, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at home of natural causes. He was born in Center Point, IA, the son of Everett Newton Boyles and Ava (Fischel) Boyles on November 24, 1925. Ivan served in the Army as a combat engineer during World War II. On September 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Fern Louise Manley in Center Point, IA. The couple made their home in Urbana, IA while Ivan farmed. After 8 years of farming, Ivan began over the road trucking, and the couple eventually made their home in Evansdale, IA where they raised their family. Ivan and Fern loved to travel. They kept a cabin on the Mississippi River, wintered in Florida, and lived in Scobey, Mississippi for awhile. Wherever they were, family was always close by. Ivan was a member of the AMVETS post #31 in Evansdale, Pump-Sheer American Legion post #342 in Jesup, VFW post #137 in Dyersville, IA, and UAW Local 838 in Waterloo, IA. Ivan is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fern Boyles of Hazleton, IA; 1 son, Duane (Judy) Boyles of Waterloo, IA; 4 daughters, Virginia (Fred) Niebergall of Deer Park, WI, Vivian Scudder of Blodgett, MO, Carol (Robert) Schmitz of Hayesville, KS, Candace (Lloyd) Patterson of La Porte City, IA; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several step great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Dick (Shirley) Boyles of Cedar Rapids, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Larry Boyles, 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Boyles and Ryan Boyles; 3 brothers, Leland “Fat” Boyles, Linn Boyles, LeRoy Boyles; and 1 son-in-law, Tony Scudder. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the White Funeral Home, 1315 Main Street, Jesup, IA 50648, with Pastor Alex Bruening officiating. Burial will be at Waterloo Cemetery, Waterloo, IA. Military rites will be conducted by the Evansdale AMETS post #31. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25th at White Funeral Home, Jesup and for an hour before the services on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
