Independence – Wilda “Woody” Becker, 82 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Lexington Estate in Independence. She was born on February 7, 1935, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Cleveland and Grace Marie (Anderson) Bantz. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1953. On October 16, 1956, she and James Robert Becker were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1989. Mrs. Becker was a meat wrapper and clerk in the meat department at the Super Valu in Independence for 26 years before she retired. She was a member of St. John’sCatholic Church. She enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards, and especially fishing.
Mrs. Becker is survived by 2 sons, Marty Becker of Independence, Iowa, and Patrick Becker of Waterloo, Iowa, 1 daughter Lori (Duane Kress) Cleveland of Independence, Iowa, 1 grandson, Joshua Becker, and 1 brother, Judd Bantz of Guttenberg, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, and 5 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Rev. David Beckman will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 7th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
