Waterloo – Edilia Bernstein, 88 years old of Rosewood Estates, Waterloo, IA, died Sunday, January 22, 2017, at her home.  She was born June 4, 1928, in Orbetello, Italy, the daughter of Ezio Testi and Zelfina (Vagnuzzi) Testi.  On October 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leroy W. Schmidt in Lavoro, Italy.  She returned to the United States with her husband but became divorced in 1952.  On January 22, 1953, she married Eugene L. Bernstein in Colfax County, New Mexico.  They divorced in 1977.  Edilia worked as a waitress for several years but then became a Respiratory Therapist and worked at Allen Memorial Hospital until retirement.

Edilia is survived by four sisters and several nieces and nephews in Italy.  She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Her remains will be returned to Italy, and placed in the family mausoleum.
