Elk Run Heights – Dorothy Mae DeMoss, 85, of Vinton, IA, and formerly of Elk Run Heights, IA, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Casket Bearers will be Christian & Amy DeMoss, Amy & Jason Arneson, Brian Vogel & Kelsey Williams, Eric & Jennifer Vogel, Jared & Ashley Nelson and Jacob Nelson.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., before services Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale.  Memorials will be directed to the Vinton Lutheran Home Memory Care Unit.

Mrs. DeMoss was born February 6, 1931, at the family home south of Independence, in Buchanan County, IA, the daughter of Robert Vincent Rider and Pearl Louise (Finley) Rider.  On September 17, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert Herman DeMoss in Waterloo, IA.  She was a graduate of Independence High School.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for Hobart Sales and Service in Waterloo before retirement.  She was also self-employed, operating a tax preparation business from her home for 20 plus years.  Mrs. DeMoss was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale.

Mrs. DeMoss is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (James) Vogel of Waterloo, Robin (Brett) Nelson of Johnston, IA; one son, Robert “Bobby” (Sarah) DeMoss of Evansdale; six grandchildren, Christian (Amy) DeMoss, Amy (Jason) Arneson, Brian Vogel (Kelsey Williams), Eric (Jennifer) Vogel, Jared (Ashley) Nelson, Jacob Nelson; one step grandson, Travis (Ashley) Saunders, 10 great grandchildren, Devin, Dylan and Dawson DeMoss; Seth, Ethan and Owen Arneson; Ariana and Gabriel Vogel; James and William Vogel; 1 great great-granddaughter, Mia DeMoss; and one brother, Robert (Luetta) Rider of Vinton, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; and one brother, Floyd Rider.
