Independence – William P. “Bill” Wilson, 74 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, December 2, 2016, at ABCM Rehab. of Independence – East Campus. He was born on September 27, 1942, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Willard James and Viola Mae (Wood) Wilson. He graduated from high school in Brandon, Iowa, and then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. On September 28, 1964, he and the former Joan Naomi Pearson were married in Vinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2014. Mr. Wilson was a jet engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. After that, he worked for National Cash Register in Dover, Delaware, and A.T. & T. He eventually returned to the family farm near Brandon and farmed while working for John Deere in Waterloo. He also had a repair carpentry business. Mr. Wilson never really retired. He did enjoy growing flowers in his garden, but he was usually working on fixing something for someone.
Mr. Wilson is survived by 2 sons, Robert (Kristi) Wilson of Glenwood, Minnesota, and Jerry Wilson of Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, 1 grandson, Brian Wilson, and 1 sister, Susan Wilson of Ashville, North Carolina.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Ruth Wilson.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Living Water Church in Independence with Pastor John Sheda officiating. Friends may call for visitation for an hour before services at the church.
