Waterloo – Alban V. “Al” Dittmer, 91 years old of rural Waterloo, IA, died Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Unity Point – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilbertville, IA, with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Raymond, IA.  Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Tuesday, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Vigil service at 4:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.  Memorials will be directed to charities.

Al was born November 29, 1924, in Warren County, IA, near Milo.  He served in the US Navy Seabees during WWII.  On Sept 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Florence G. Schares at Immaculate Conception Catholic in Gilbertville.  He worked 35 years at Rath Packing in Waterloo, retiring in 1985.  Al also farmed for many years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raymond and Nugent Demuth American Legion Post 714 in Gilbertville.

Al is survived by his wife, Florence of rural Waterloo, two daughters, Gloria (Kurt) Mielke of Keosauqua, IA, Wanda Dittmer of Waterloo; two sons, William (Mary) Dittmer of rural Jesup, IA, Joseph (Sandy) Dittmer of Utica, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; three brothers, Jerome of Lacona, IA, Bernard of Ft. Dodge, IA, Sylvester of Milo, IA; and one sister, Bernice Dittmer of Des Moines, IA.  His parents; one daughter, Joyce Dittmer (in infancy), one son, Richard Dittmer; three brothers, James, Paul and Gerald Dittmer; and one sister, Marie Schares, preceded him in death.
