Independence – Verna D. Beachy, 74 years old, of rural Hazleton, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.  She was born on August 8, 1942, in Madison County, Ohio, the daughter of Dan and Edna (Yutzy) Helmuth.  On October 6, 1970, she and Jerry B. Beachy were married at her parents’ home in rural Hazleton.

Mrs. Beachy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry, 5 daughters, Emma (Levi) Miller of Seymour, Iowa, Laura (Samuel) Beachy of Albia, Iowa, and Elizabeth (Perry) Miller, Edna (Andy) Raber, and Martha (John) Raber, all of Hazleton, 4 sons, Harley Beachy of Columbia, Missouri, and Ray (Barbara) Beachy, Vernon (Sarah) Beachy, and Dan (Esther) Beachy, all of Hazleton, and many grandchildren.  She is also survived by 4 brothers, William (Katie) Helmuth and Perry (Esther) Helmuth, both of Hazleton, David (Ida Mae) Helmuth of Cresco, Iowa, and Dan (Clara) Helmuth of Hopkinton, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Emma (Eddie) Gingerich of Hazleton, and Katie (Eli) Gingerich, of LaValle, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Aiden Helmuth, and 1 sister, Elizabeth Sheteler.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Jerry Beachy home in rural Hazleton, Iowa, with Eli C. Raber officiating.  Burial will be in the East Cemetery, rural Hazleton.
