White Funeral Home Jesup – Richard J. “Hambone” McGlaughlin, 84 of Independence and formerly of Littleton and Jesup, IA, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at Lexington Place, Independence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. John Molacek officiating. Burial will be at the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. - Wednesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard James McGlaughlin was born December 26, 1931 in Buchanan County, IA, the son of Arley J. McGlaughlin and Edna Matilda (Fidler) McGlaughlin. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1950. He was first married to Mary Gavigan but they later divorced. He was later married to Sharon Ann Klein on May 27, 1972, in Jesup, IA. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2011. Richard worked about 30 years at Rath Packing in Waterloo, IA. After Rath’s closing, he then worked at Iowa Ham in Independence until retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and also tinkering in his shop and Antiques. Richard is survived by one sister, Arlene (Leslie) Reinertson of Jesup; one sister in law, Betty McGlaughlin of Jesup; two step – Sisters, Eleanor (Kenneth) Weber of Jesup, Dorothy Eichoff of Ava, MO. His parents, Arley McGlaughlin and Edna (McGlaughlin) Mixdorf; his wife Sharon, and one brother, Robert McGlaughlin, preceded him in death. |
