White Funeral Home Jesup – John Emil Vieth, 86, of rural Jesup, IA, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Unity Point / Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA, following an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA, with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilbertville. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. – Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary and a 6:00 p.m. – Vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Bosco System, both in Gilbertville. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Vieth was born October 1, 1929, in Chicago, IL, the son of Emil Vieth and Walburga (Werner) Vieth. He served in the US Army from 1951 – 1953. On May 31, 1954, he was united in marriage to Theresa Margaret Etringer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, IA. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle, being with nature and Theresa’s homemade baked goods, including cinnamon rolls, bread, and pies. In addition to the church, he was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 in Gilbertville. Mr. Vieth is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa Vieth of Jesup; five daughters, Judy Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Duane) Schmit of Jesup, Rosie Steimel of Cedar Rapids, Janet (Kevin) Weber of Pleasant Hill, IA, Suzie (Carl) Corkery of Jesup; two sons, John J. (Michelle) Vieth of Gladbrook, IA, Tony (Joleen) Vieth of Cedar Falls, IA; 25 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Emily (Greg) Whittle of Altoona, IA, and Mary Groat of Bakersfield, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Vieth and one brother, Dennis Vieth. |
