Fairbank – Andrew Alexander “Bus” Bengston, 98 years old of Fairbank, IA, formerly of Littleton, died April 29, 2016. He was born February 3, 1918 at his grandparent’s home in Waterloo, IA the son of George William Bengston and Hazel Leona (Peverill) Bengston. He worked in the bakery of his uncle Wesley “Stub” Peverill following his 7^th grade education from West Jr. High, and worked at the kennels of his uncles Glen Peverill and Lloyd Peverill as well as showing dogs with his aunt Ellen Peverill. In 1936 he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) for a year term where they built the dam at Beads Lake. He also worked construction a couple years under John Miller and at the Rath Packing Plant for about a year and a half. On June 7, 1940 he married Katherine Rose Tonne in Waverly. Andy served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 as a rifleman with the 147^th Infantry on New Caledonia, Iwo Jima and Okinawa during World War II. Andy and Kay moved to Littleton in 1967 where they started the Bengston Game Farm. Andy retired from John Deere Waterloo Works in 1974. Andy and Kay spent their winters from 1974-86 at South Padre Island, TX. Andy’s other hobbies included jigsaw puzzles, hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.

Andrew is survived by one sister Corrine Swanson of Waterloo, one daughter Andrea (Murray) Thorpe of Littleton, and one son Terry (Monica) of rural Fairbank, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren, a brother-in-law Jr. (Peg) Grimm, and a sister-in-law Maxine Bengston of Waterloo.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father in 1961, mother in 1993, wife in 2013, one son Dennis in 2002, his brother George Jr., his sisters Arlene Green, Alice Mae Elliott, Margaret Corwin, and a granddaughter Tamra Bengston.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA with Msgr. Lyle L. Wilgenbusch officiating.  Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, IA with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup, IA.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday May 3^rd at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA.
