White Funeral Home Gilbertville – Oran H. “Howdy” Knight, 64 years old of Gilbertville, IA, and formerly of Independence, IA, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo following a long illness. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA, with inurnment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714 of Gilbertville. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Parish rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and to Cedar Valley Hospice. Mr. Knight was born August 4, 1951 in Buchanan County, IA, the son of George Knight and Verna (Scheeman) Knight. Following his educational years he joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Phillipines and Hawaii. On October 20, 1973, he was united in marriage to Linda Lee Even in Gilbertville, IA. He worked 30 years at the Mental Health Institute in Independence, from general carpentry to computer technician. He enjoyed golfing, motor cycle riding, and his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Knight was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714, both in Gilbertville. Mr. Knight is survived by his wife, Linda of Gilbertville; one daughter, Sabrina Knight of Gilbertville; one son, Ryan Knight of Independence; two grandchildren, Aspen and Ashton; two sisters, Emily (John) Daws of Dike, IA, Linda (Rick) Kress of Rowley, IA; and his loving dog, “Buttons". |
