Vinton – Wanita A. Spece, 74 years old, of Vinton, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at her home in Vinton. She was born on December 6, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of LuVerne Eldon and Rosella Marion (Mertes) Christian. She graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, Iowa, with the Class of 1959. She then completed the course of study for a laboratory technician in Minneapolis, Minnesota. OnApril 27, 1968, she and Darrell Wayne Spece were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Spece was a laboratory technician at Peoples Memorial Hospital and Medical Associates in Independence before retiring. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading, dancing, and listening to music and performing music on her accordion.
Mrs. Spece is survived by 1 daughter, Debbie Spece of Ankeny, Iowa, 1 son, Bill (Lacey) Spece of New Providence, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Marilyn (Gerald) Johnson of Newhall, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church inIndependence. Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Mar. 28th, at the White Funeral Home inIndependence where a Rosary begins at 5 p.m.
