White Funeral Home Jesup – Lawrence H. “Laurie” Corkery, 90 years old of Jesup, IA, died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy House in Hiawatha, IA. Laurie was born January 13, 1926, in Fairbank, IA, the son of John Charles Corkery and Margaret Elizabeth (Staebell) Corkery. His educational years were at Immaculate Conception School in Fairbank, IA and following graduation he worked as a farm hand until entering military service in 1946. Following his discharge from the Army he continued as a farm hand until turning to carpentry, which became his lifetime career. On June 11, 1952, Lawrence and Lois Jane Niichel were united in marriage in Jesup. She preceded him in death on September 4, 1971. In 1974 he and the former Judy Suzanne (Rosauer) Bedard were married at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center, IA. They made their home on the farm near Jesup until moving to town. Laurie is survived by his wife, Judy of Jesup; their children, Patty (Jim) McNichols of Buffalo, MN, Peg Morton of Newton, IA, Mary Corkery of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kim (Jim) Senn of Waterloo, IA, Shelly Bedard of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jim (Jane) Corkery of Madison, WI, Tony (Marcia) Bedard of Cedar Rapids, IA, Brian (Shari) Bedard of Fairfax, IA, Mike (Debbie) Corkery of Worthington, IA, Larry (Lori) Corkery of Jesup, IA, Brenda (Jimmy) DeVita of Spring Green, WI, Tom (Marie) Corkery of Prescott, AZ, Matt (Kim) Corkery of Cedar Rapids, IA, Brett (Kris) Bedard of Bettendorf, IA, Chris (Sarah) Corkery of Cedar Falls, IA; a daughter in law, Diana Corkery of Prescott Valley, AZ; 42 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five brothers, Leon Corkery of Moline, IL, Tom (Regina) Corkery of Jesup, IA, Fr. Ray Corkery of Darien, IL, Dick (Mary Jo) Corkery of Springfield, IL, Lou (Shelli) Corkery of Cedar Falls, IA; three sisters, Patti (Richard) Sulentic of Cedar Falls, IA, Mary Kail of Peoria, IL, Sr. Therese Corkery of Bolivia. In addition to his first wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Marty Corkery; four brothers, Bob, Paul, Mike and Ed Corkery; and two sons in law, Gerald Morton and Steve Marschel. |
