Independence – Joan M. Williams, 79 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at ABCM Rehab Centers of Independence – East Campus in Independence. She was born in Independence on December 5, 1936, the daughter of Adrian Cornelius and Juanita Mae (Barkley) VanRee. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1955. In January of 1961, she and Roger Lee Williams were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2006. Mrs. Williams worked as an assembly person at Microswitch in Independence for 15 years. She worked as a drill press operator at Geater Machining in Independence for 30 years. She retired in 1994. She was a member of the Calvary Evangelistic Center in Independence. In her later years she enjoyed working puzzles and playing Bingo. She also collected pictures of cats and cat figurines.
Mrs. Williams is survived by 1 son, Tim (Angie) Williams of Independence, 3 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Jacky Langham of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, James VanRee and John VanRee.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Calvary Evangelistic Center in Independence with Pastor James Ganze officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.on Sunday, Feb. 14th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
