Independence – Wayne L. Johnson, 65 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, February 1, 2016, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  He was born on June 14, 1950, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Bernard Burdette and Shirley Mardel (Spece) Johnson.  He graduated from school in Independence with the Class of 1968.  On June 15, 1974, he and the former Brenda Mae Crawford were married in Evansdale, Iowa.  Mr. Johnson was a production team leader at Iowa Ham in Independence when he became disabled in 1997.  He was also a concrete foundation worker for many years.  He enjoyed time spent bowling, playing pool, and fishing.  In later years he spent time reading on the computer.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 41 years, Brenda, 2 sons, Matthew (Huong) Johnson and Jeremiah (Kristena) Johnson, both of Independence, and 7 grandchildren, Nhi, John, Donovan, Arianna, Garrett, Logan, and Ave Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Johnson’s cremated remains will be placed in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  There will be no services.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
