White Funeral Home Jesup – Marian Luster Stoddard, age 98, of Denver, Colorado and formerly of Jesup and Waterloo, Iowa died Friday, January 1, 2016 at the St. Paul Health Center, Denver, CO, following a lengthy illness. Marian was born December 17, 1917 in St. Elmo, Illinois. Her parents were Henry Hollen & Mattie (Randall) Magner who relocated to the Waterloo area in the 1920’s. Marian graduated from West Waterloo High School and became a secretary there after graduation. She later met Gilbert V. Stoddard in 1937, when they both worked at Potter’s Ice Cream company. They were married June 9, 1942 and were married for 67 years. Gib & Marian moved to Jesup, Iowa in 1955. Marian later worked at the CPA firm of Carney Alexander Merrill in Waterloo. After Gib’s death in 2009, Marian moved to Denver, Co, to be closer to her two sons and their families. Marian was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Jesup where she was the church treasurer, Sunday school nursery teacher (for over 30 years), and a founding member of the Holy Rollers, a newspaper recycling group still raising money for the church today. She always helped people get to church and any other church functions. She was a leader in the United Methodist Women's fellowship. She was a long time member of the Every Other Friday Club. Marian is survived by her two sons, Greg (Robyn) Stoddard of Denver, CO, and Rick (Janie) Stoddard, of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Gregor Stoddard of Denver, CO, Abby (Adam) Burgess of Denver, CO, & Trip Stoddard of New York, NY; also three step-grandchildren, Patrick Lynch of Denver, CO, Sean Lynch of Newport Beach, CA, and Kate Lynch of Denver, CO; and one great-granddaughter, Marlie Stoddard McKenzie of Denver, CO. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sister, Helen Turner Corsello, and brothers-in-law, Philip Stoddard and Dominic Corsello. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup. Burial will follow the service in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Memorials will be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Jesup. Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Monday, January 11, at White Funeral Home, Jesup and for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday. |
