Traer - Karen Kay Staebell, 72 years old, of Traer, IA and formerly of Jesup, IA, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at her daughter's home of a lengthy illness.
She was born January 19, 1943 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Michael “Jack” Hummel & Gladys (Dooley) Hummel.
Karen attended St. Athanasius Catholic School in Jesup. On June 11, 1960 she married Eddie Silvola in Jesup. They later divorced. On January 12, 1997 she married Vincent G. Staebell in Bullhead City, AZ.
Mrs. Staebell enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, playing bingo and other gambling games. She worked at John Deere for many years and later was a blackjack dealer in Bullhead City, AZ as well as the Meskwaki Casino in Tama, IA.
Karen is survived by her daughter Tina Sivola of Traer, IA; son, Tony (Melissa) Sivola of Vinton, IA; 5 grandchildren, Aubree Sivola, Trenton Sivola, Ryan Sivola, all of Vinton, IA, Robert (Valerie) Yeltman of Buckingham, IA, Joshua (Amanda) Yeltman of Witchita, KS; 5 great grandchildren, Tannah Sivola, Gavin Yeltman, Ava Yeltman, Cadence Yeltman, Eli Yeltman; 2 sisters, Nancy (Don) Frost of Raymond, IA, Wanda (Brent) McNabe of Casa Grande, AZ; 1 brother, Gary Hummel, of Flagstaff, AZ; and 1 sister-in-law, Rita Hummel of Jesup, IA; nieces & nephews, and great-nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Allen Hummel, two sister, Gloria Morrison and Janiece Ann Mohler.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3 p.m. -7 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA were there will be a 6:00 p.m. parish vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church Thursday.
Memorials will be directed to the family and St. Athanasius Church.
