He was born March 30, 1948, in Waseca, MN, the son of M. Raymond Gallagher and Geraldine (Amberg) Gallagher. Gary graduated with the Sacred Heart High School Class of 1966 in Waseca, MN and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Renee Mittelsteadt and they later divorced. On May 13, 1978 he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Corkery in Cedar Rapids, IA. Gary worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids, IA for 33 years and he also worked as a bartender for five years. Gary was a gun enthusiast and started his own business, Gary’s Sporting Optics, where he sold gun scopes. He enjoyed going to gun shows and also liked to target shoot. Gary was a lifetime member of Sweet-Sommers VFW Post 1642, in Waseca, MN. Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife, Mary of Fairfax, IA; one son, Jerett (Lisa) Gallagher of Byron, MN; one daughter, Angela (Shawn) Behrends of Parkersburg, IA; three grandchildren, Andrew Gallagher, Megan Gallagher, and Sierra Behrends; one great-granddaughter, Adelynn Behrends; and two brothers, Don (Edna) Gallagher of Denver, CO, and Jack (Jody) Gallagher of Marion, IL. His parents; one granddaughter, Alexis Behrends; and his brother, Michael Gallagher, preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, with Fr. Donald J. Plamondon as celebrant. Music will be by Bonnie O’Brien, organist, Bill Luebbers, soloist, and the St. John’s Choir. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, with a Military Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home, Independence. Memorials will be directed to the church, the Veterans Administration, and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. |
