Independence – Jeffrey B. Simmons, 57 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, December 7, 2015, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born on August 17, 1958, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Benjamin and Norma Jeanne (Kilcoyne) Simmons. He graduated from high school in Cuba City with the Class of 1976. On August 22, 1981, he and the former Donna May Straw were married in Independence. Mr. Simmons worked at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. When he retired in 2010, he was the maintenance supervisor. Mr. Simmons enjoyed camping, NASCAR races, and the Green Bay Packers. He was a former Cub Scout Master. He was a board member of the Iowa Society of Hospital Engineers, the Independence Board of Adjustment, and he served on the Buchanan County Jail Planning Committee. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna, 1 son, Taylor (Jennifer) Simmons of Independence, 1 daughter, Melissa Simmons of Independence, and 1 grandson, Christian Simmons. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Tom (Barb) Simmons of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, and John (Pam) Simmons and Tracey Simmons, both of Oregon, Wisconsin, 2 sisters, Deb (Don) Coulthart of Oregon, Wisconsin, and Kathy (Dave) Timmerman of Benton, Wisconsin, and his step father, Harry Blackbourn of Shullsburg, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Deacon Tim Post officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Rosary begins at 6 p.m.
