White Funeral Home Jesup – Robert Dale Shatzer, 86, of Jesup, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals Palliative Care Unit surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov 16, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, Iowa with burial at Union Cemetery, Aurora, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov 15, at White Funeral Home, Jesup and before services Monday at the church. Bob was born August 21, 1929, in Oran, IA, the son of Harry O. and Mary (Schnell) Shatzer. He graduated from Jesup Community Schools in Jesup. On June 5, 1955, he married Patricia Marie Matteson at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aurora. After four years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he was a Rural Mail Carrier for 30 years and earned the 1 million mile award for no accidents. He served as the Jesup City Clerk for 18 years, was a school board member, booster club member, charter member of the Jesup Golf & Country Club and was a member of The Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 for 60 years. He enjoyed playing cards and watching high school and college sports. Survivors include his sons Brad (Jackie) of Cedar Falls, Dale (Sarah) of Chambersburg, PA, Bruce (Kari) of Woodridge, IL, Nyle of Tripoli and daughters Sonja (Paul) Gibbs of Marion and Angela (David) Zimmer of Polk City; grandchildren Brice and Cade Shatzer, Laura and Kyle Shatzer, Aaron, Hannah and Stephen Shatzer, Danielle, Kristin and Chad Gibbs, Brittany, Beth, Abi and Reagan Zimmer, one sister-in-law Freda Matteson of New Zealand and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2014, parents, sisters, Elva Kirk, Florence Weatherman, Eileen Mount, Madeline Steinbron, and brothers Orval, Everett and Harry E. Shatzer. Memorials will be directed to American Lutheran Church, Jesup and to the Jesup High School Booster Club. |
