White Funeral Home Jesup – Douglas Joseph Reiter, 59 years old of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at his home of brain cancer. He was born June 10, 1956, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Harold Peter Reiter and Jacqueline Catherine (Bedard) Reiter. He graduated from La Porte City High School with the class of 1974. On October 17, 1981, he was united in marriage to Janet Delagardelle at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, IA. Doug was a farmer and loved to farm with his family. He continued farming right up until he was no longer able. After high school Doug was hired by Bill Strubel where he learned the building trade. In 1984 he went out on his own forming Reiter Construction and started his business by building pole barns and eventually houses. Doug shared his love of wrestling through his involvement with the Don Bosco wrestling program where he volunteered his time and his many talents. He was a member Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters in Gilbertville. Doug is survived by his wife, Janet of Jesup; two daughters, Audrey (Michael) Johnson of New Glarus, WI, and Ellen Reiter of Des Moines, IA; Four sons, Joseph (Leah) Reiter of Gilbertville, Mack Reiter of Minneapolis, MN, Eddie (fiance Megan Smock) Reiter of Cedar Falls, IA, and Bart (Michelle) Reiter of Raymond, IA; five grandchildren, Henry Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Scarlett Reiter, Louis Reiter, and Loxley Reiter; also his mother Jacqueline Reiter of La Porte City, IA; eight sisters, Audrey (Dick) Young of Swisher, IA, Elaine (Shelby) Lay of Aurora, CO, Beverly (Mike) Chapman of Newton, IA, Rebecca (John) Johnson - Stewart of Dubuque, IA, Julie (Rick) Dengler of Elkader, IA, Wanda (David) Thackery of Mount Vernon, IA, Georgia (Larry) Reiter of La Porte City, IA. Pam (Rod) Frost of Farmington, MN; six brothers, Russell (Marianne) Reiter of Hudson, IA, Hal (Dee) Reiter of Buckingham, IA, Daniel (Kim) Reiter of La Porte City, IA, Leo (Jackie) Reiter of Jewell, IA, Samuel Reiter of Ventura, IA, Theodore (Angie) Reiter of Prior Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his father Harold Reiter on April 21, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. - Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilbertville. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, where there will be a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 2:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Church and the Bosco System. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of arrangements. |
