Independence – Donald Wilbur Meythaler, 78 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at ABCM Rehabilitation Centers of Independence, West Campus, in Independence. He was born on July 4, 1937, in Independence, the son of Harold Wilbur and Ida Loretta (Thedens) Meythaler. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1956. On November 3, 1964, he and the former Victoria Ann Gibson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mr. Meythaler was an inspector at the John Deere Co. in Waterloo for 40 years. He retired in 1996. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #838 and the Antique Automobile Club of America. Mr. Meythaler restored, owned, and drove his Ford Model T, Ford Model A, and Ford Thunderbird cars. He also enjoyed time spent working in his garden and yard and building furniture in his woodworking shop.
Mr. Meythaler is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vicky, 3 sons, Greg Meythaler of Portland, Oregon, Scott (Laura Lightcap) Meythaler of Swisher, Iowa, and Douglas (Jill Smith) Meythaler of Golden Valley, Minnesota, 5 grandchildren, 1 brother, Robert (Judy) Meythaler of Grinnell, Iowa, and 1 sister, Jan (Gordon) Esbeck of Tipton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
