White Funeral Home Independence – Janet L. Rix, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born on May 9, 1938, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Merton Emerson and Helen Beatrice (Brockway) Salisbury. She graduated from high school in Cedar Falls with the Class of 1956 and then completed her teaching degree at Iowa State Teachers College (U.N.I.) in Cedar Falls. On December 24, 1960, she and Carlyn Dale Rix were married in Cedar Falls. Mrs. Rix was an elementary teacher and learning disabilities teacher in the Dunkerton and Independence school systems. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Independence, Phi Sigma Phi, and Beta Sigma Phi. Her children were a major focus in her life. Mrs. Rix is survived by her husband of 54 years, Carlyn, 3 daughters, Sally Hayward, Chris (Terry) Juhl, and Kari (Jon) Noesen, all of Independence, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Kelly Rix, 1 grandson, Asher Noesen, and 1 sister in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. The family will greet friends for an hour before services on Wednesday. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
