White Funeral Home Independence – Lucille F. Franck, 93 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, January 30, 2015, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence. She was born on March 15, 1921, in Hills, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer W. and Mary Elizabeth (Ziegler) Eagan. She moved with her family to a farm north of Independence in 1929, and then into Independence shortly after that. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1938. On September 28, 1940, she and Walter Franck, Jr., were married at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Franck had several clerical jobs in Independence before her children were born. In 1960 when the youngest child started school, she went back to work in the Admissions Office at the Mental Health Institute in Independence. She retired in 1986. Mrs. Franck was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, the Faith Circle, the Independence Garden Club, and the Peoples Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was formerly a member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club and Beta Chi Sorority. She volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Bank and the Buchanan County Hospice, and she mentored at East Elementary in Independence. Mrs. Franck received the Behind the Scenes Award from the Independence Chamber of Commerce in 1992, and the Hospice Volunteer Award from the Iowa Hospice Organization Conference in 1995. She was also a master cookie baker and the cookies she produced found their way into the homes of many of her family and friends. Mrs. Franck is survived by 4 daughters, Linda (Phil) Boelter of Edina, Minnesota, and Carol (Doug) Beier, Vicki Jo (Gary) McClintock, and Mary Kay (Daryl) Johnson, all of Independence, Iowa. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law, Bob McCarty of Oelwein, Iowa, and many special friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Gary Franck, 2 sisters, Mary McCarty and Evelyn Hertzberg, and 2 brothers, Donald Eagan and James Eagan. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Greg DeBoer and Pastor Mark Doidge officiating. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2nd, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Prayer Service begins at 7:30 p.m. A Memorial Fund has been established. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. |
