White Funeral Home Jesup – Kent C. Yeager, 73, of Jesup, Iowa, died January 13, 2015, at Buchanan County Health Center following a stroke. Kent Charles was born on April 13, 1941, to Dorothy (Krueger) and Lynn Yeager. He was raised on a farm near Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School in 1959. He then attended Iowa State University. He married Joellen Wassenaar in Prairie City in 1963. For 52 years he farmed near Jesup. Throughout his life, he was very active in his church and community. His service included numerous boards and organizations in Jesup and Buchanan County, including the American Lutheran Church council, Jesup School Board, Jesup Telephone Board, Jesup Co-op Board, Lion's Club and the Buchanan County FSA Board. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed visiting with everyone he met. Kent was a true caretaker of his family, friends and the land. Kent is survived by his wife, Joellen; children Julie (Chad) Wood of Prairie City; Alane (Mike) Dunn of Johnston; Paul (Amy) Yeager of Ankeny and Kristine White of Des Moines; grandchildren Paige and Allison Wood, Morgan Dunn, Noah and Levi Yeager and Maddox White; step-grandchildren Jordan and Austin Dunn; stepfather Robert Lehmann of Dubuque; sisters Lynda Holtz and Barbara Nash, both of Jefferson; brothers Mark (Karen) Lehmann of Waverly, Brian (Mary) Lehmann of Houston, Minn. and Grant (Laurie) Lehmann of Bangor, Mich.; and brother-in-law Gordon Wassenaar of Prairie City. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, at White Funeral Home in Jesup from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a prayer and memory service at 7:00. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Jesup, with family present an hour before. Interment will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Jesup. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the establishment of a scholarship in his name or to Cedar Valley Hospice. |
