Independence – Betty A. Temeyer, 82 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Rosewood Estates in Waterloo. She was born on April 16, 1932, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Jay and Helena Smetzer. She graduated from high school in Vinton. On March 16, 1963, she and Ray Earl Temeyer were married at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton. He preceded her in death in 2011. Mrs. Temeyer worked at the Benton County Court House in Vinton for many years before her marriage. She worked for several years as a bookkeeper for the Greenley Elevator in Independence after her marriage. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Independence. She was a former Brownie leader. And she enjoyed gardening and travel. She and her husband wintered in Florida for many years.
Mrs. Temeyer is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Richard Smetzer, 1 sister, Donna Erickson, and 1 sister-in-law, Ramona Smetzer.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
