Jesup– Patty S. Diven, 72 years old, of Jesup, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at Manor Care in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born on July 28, 1942, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Lester James and Vonda Irene (Nibeck) Smirl.  She graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1960.  Then, she studied Interior Design at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa.  Mrs. Diven volunteered at Operation Threshold and delivered Meals on Wheels.  She loved cooking and sewing.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Independence, Iowa.

Mrs. Diven is survived by 2 daughters, Debra (Dick) Newton of Independence and Benni (Doug) Kerkove of Jesup, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her dog, Gus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Elwood Smirl.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Independence with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating.  The family will greet friends for an hour before services. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
