Independence – Gregory M. Callaghan, 57 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  He was born on December 3, 1957, in Harver, Montana, the son of Joe and Darlene (Spencer) Callaghan.  He graduated from high school in Forsythe, Montana, and then served in the U.S. Navy.  On September 15, 1979, he and the former Beverly Sue Straw were married in San Diego, California.  Before retiring due to his health, he was a maintenance supervisor at the Mental Health Institute in Independence.  Mr. Callaghan enjoyed NASCAR races and football games that he watched on TV.

Mr. Callaghan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beverly, 2 daughters, Angel (Dan) Chetzk of Springville, Iowa, and Baylee Callaghan of Independence, 1 grandson, Mason Chetzk, and his mother, Darlene Rollins of Miles City, Montana.  He is also survived by 3 brothers, Gary Falcon of Illinois, Tom Falcon of Forsythe, Montana, and Kelly Callaghan of Illinois, and 1 sister, Brenda Little of Miles City, Montana.

He was preceded in death by his father and 1 sister.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.
