Independence – Jimmie J. “Jim” Ledtje, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on November 12, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa.  He was born on November 10, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ernest C. and Alice M. (Browne) Ledtje.  He attended the Waterloo Community Schools.  Mr. Ledtje served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict.  On October 16, 1971, he and Sharla Jean Sherrets were married in Galena, Illinois.  They later divorced.  Mr. Ledtje worked for the Ready Mix in Waterloo.  He then started working at Iowa Ham (Tyson Foods) in Independence.  He worked there for 30 years before retiring.  Mr. Ledtje enjoyed gardening and was proud of his immaculate yard.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, gambling, and shopping.  He really enjoyed the Christmas season.

Mr. Ledtje is survived by 3 daughters, Kristin (Bill) Baldwin, and Amy (Danny Yeoman) Ledtje, both of Independence, Iowa, and Leah Ledtje of North Liberty, Iowa, and 2 grandchildren, Addyson, and Aylin Baldwin.  He is also survived by 3 brothers, Bob Ledtje of Elberon, Iowa, and Warren Ledtje and Norman Ledtje, both of Waterloo, Iowa, and 3 sisters, Doris Aasgaard of Waterloo, Iowa, Gertrude Conley of Pennsylvania, and Arlene Schares of Gilbertville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Ronald Ledtje, Wilbur Ledtje, and Royal Ledtje, and 1 sister, Esther Ledtje.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Mike Gillespie officiating.  Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the funeral home. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Bob Ledtje, Warren Ledtje, Norman Ledtje, Bill Baldwin, Danny Yeoman, Steve Sherrets, Skip Hall, Terry Schares and William Baldwin.
