Independence – Margaret K. "Peggy" Black, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 22, 1937, the daughter of Albert Ross and Irene Evans (Sargent) Rhodes. She moved to Iowa and graduated from high school in Independence. In July of 1960, she and Darwin M. Black were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. They later divorced. Mrs. Black worked at Geater Machining and Manufacturing Co. in Independence for 33 years. She retired in 2010. Mrs. Black was a faithful fan of Chicago Cubs baseball games and Chicago Bears football games. She enjoyed every minute watching the teams play on TV.
Mrs. Black is survived by 2 sons, Tracy Black of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kelly Black of Independence, Iowa, 1 daughter, Kimberly (Mike) Brubaker of Thompson, Illinois, and 2 grandchildren, Nicole and Brianna. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Janet (Patrick Sexton) Weikert of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters, and 1 brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m.until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9th, at the funeral home.
