Independence – Robert T. Greene, 78 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, November 3, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on April 22, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa. His adoptive father was Harvey Stewart Greene and his mother was Lula Mae (Eschen) Greene. Later in life, he was able to locate the grave of his biological father, Victor T. Weisenberger. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1954. On October 3, 1954, he and the former Bonnie Lou Belzer were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Independence. She preceded him in death in 2002. Mr. Greene was a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo until retiring in 1992. Mr. Greene had a second occupation as a gunsmith. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #838, the Buchanan County Wildlife Club, the N.R.A., the Iowa Gun Owner’s Association, and Three Elm Golf Course. His family was most important to him. He also enjoyed hunting deer and prairie dogs, fishing, and golfing.
Mr. Greene is survived by his daughter, LuAnn (Perry) Brodigan of Independence, his son, Jeff (Karen) Greene of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, 4 grandchildren, Gary Lynn, Rod Lynn, Meghan Greene, and J.T. Greene, 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Jacob, 2 step great grandchildren, Taylor and Garrett, 2 sisters-in-law, Bev Coulter of Independence and Jody Drake of Overland Park, Kansas.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5th, at the funeral home.
