Independence – Marilyn J. Covert, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, October 24, 2014, at ABCM Nursing and Rehab Center Independence – West in Independence. She was born on October 1, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Robert S. and Fern A. (Stover) Covert. When she was 6 weeks old, Ms. Covert was injured in an automobile accident which also claimed her mother’s life. She was able to go on and graduated from high school in Lamont, Iowa. Following graduation, she was able to make a career as a waitress in several Independence cafés before she retired. Ms. Covert enjoyed embroidering and working puzzles. In later years, she also enjoyed day trips to see the sites of the area.
Mrs. Covert is survived by 4 cousins, Marvin (Mary) Jordison of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ron (Donna) Jordison of Shreveport, Louisiana, Terry (Linda) Dunham of Urbana, Iowa, and Delbert Stover of Bloomington, Minnesota, and her special friend, Clark Williamson of Independence, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014, at Wilson Cemetery in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
