White Funeral Home Jesup – Robert Samuel Thompson, 89 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA. Family Services will be held at a later date. Robert was born September 14, 1925, in Des Moines, IA, the son of John Kenner Thompson and Ina Grace (White) Thompson. He graduated from high school in Charles City, IA. On May 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Darlene Pearl Anhorn in Osage, IA. They have made their home in Jesup since 1959. Bob worked as a television and radio engineer and later spent 21 years as an electrician at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo. He also had served in the US Marines. Robert is survived by his wife, Darlene “Dar” Thompson of Jesup; one son, Rory (Marian) Thompson of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Peggy McAtee of Riverside, IA, Jeanne Thompson of Manchester, IA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Berneice Bee Volk of ABCM Rehab-West in Independence, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Roy McAtee; five brothers, John, Donald, Gordon, Russell, Douglas; three sisters, Winifred Zierath, Virginia Thompson and Dorothy Ward.
