Independence – Carol Ann Fricke, 80 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born on May 20, 1934, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Frank Otto and Florence Edna (Julius) Euler. She graduated from high school in Freeport with the Class of 1952. On July 23, 1955, she and Karl Simon Fricke were married in Freeport. They moved to Independence, Iowa, soon after. Carol earned a B.S. Degree in Nursing from Upper Iowa University in Fayette in 1985. She taught psychiatric nursing at the M.H.I. in Independence for 16 years. Then, she worked with the Iowa Surveyor Department of Inspection and Appeals until she retired in 1997. Carol was a member of the Triumphant Church in Independence, Christian Women’s Club, a parish nurse through Triumphant Church, and the Stonecroft Bible Study Coordinator for Women’s Connection. She also volunteered at the Independence Public Library and enjoyed playing Bridge.
Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Karl, 1 son, Pastor Lance (Janice) Fricke of Independence, Iowa, and 3 daughters, Lynnel (David) Kahn of The Woodlands, Texas, Krista (Thomas) Miner of Farley, Iowa, and Stacy (Rick) Rungaitis of San Marcos, California. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Dee Otte of Canyon Lake, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Kyle in infancy, and 1 brother, Dr. Frank O. Euler.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Triumphant Church in Independence with Pastor Lance Fricke officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport, Illinois. Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
