Mr. McCalley sold Wapsi and Morman feed around Buchanan County, drove a maintainer for the city of Independence, operated the Sinclair Gas Station, worked for Geater Manufacturing and retired from Iowa Ham. After retiring, he worked part time for Hunter’s Convenience Store. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and driving his Amish friends to town. He was a member of the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440 and the BK Coffee Club. Mr. McCalley is survived by 1 son, Douglas (Barbara) McCalley of Waterloo, Iowa, 1 daughter, Linda (Bert) Armstead of Independence, 5 grandchildren, Ryan McCalley, Shannon (Dan) Michelsen, Joshua (Denise) Hamilton, Jill (Andy) Roberts, and Brooklyn (Marshall Meyer) Armstead. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Madison McCalley, Brayden Fuller, Courtney Hamilton, Carson Hamilton, Gracie Hamilton, and Evie Roberts, and 1 sister, Hazel Hemmer of Cedar Falls, Iowa. In addition to his wife, Mable, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Donald McCalley and John A. McCalley, and 2 sisters, Irma Duwa, and Betty Reckenberger. There will be a Military Service at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Friends may call for visitation after 3 p.m. on Friday. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Joshua Hamilton, Ryan McCalley, Jill Roberts, Shannon Michelsen, and Brooklyn Armstead. Burial will be at a later date. |
