Independence – Sheila M. Lamphier, 83 years old, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Rehab Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. She was born on May 3, 1931, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Amos and Lois Miriam (Hazlett) Satterlee. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1949. On May 21, 1950, she and Bruce Raymond Allsup were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1964. On November 2, 1964, she and Marvin LaVerne Lamphier were married in Fayette, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Lamphier was a dispatcher for the Buchanan County Sheriff, worked in the Business Office of the Mental Health Institute in Independence, and then, in the Buchanan County Auditor’s Office. She was formerly a member of the First United Methodist Church and B.P.W. in Independence. She was a member of several card clubs (including the Dirty Dozen) and enjoyed quilting and working jigsaw puzzles.
Mrs. Lamphier is survived by 2 sons, David Allsup of Atlanta, Michigan and Daniel (Kathy) Allsup of Independence, Iowa, and 1 daughter, Rebecca (Christopher) Ciesla of Bagley, Iowa. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Sharon Kessler of Monterey, California.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Genevieve Cook, and 3 brothers, Jack Satterlee, Clark Satterlee, and Jerome Satterlee.
Friends and family will gather for visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2014, at the White Funeral Home inIndependence. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
