White Funeral Home Jesup – Richard W. “Dick” Yount, 87 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, August 15, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo following a short illness. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with military rites by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. – Monday. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church and to Cedar Valley Hospice. Richard William Yount was born June 17, 1927, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Henry James Yount and Amy Marjorie (Share) Yount. He graduated from Waterloo West High School with the class of 1945. He served in the US Navy during the occupation of Japan. On November 12, 1949, he was united in marriage to Georgiann Josephine Ehr at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. They have made their home in Jesup since 1970. Dick worked several occupations, as a credit manager, tax preparer, and as a real estate broker and salesman. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #8227, Pump-Scheer American Legion, all in Jesup and the Catholic Order of Foresters in Gilbertville. He currently served as the American Legion Treasurer, and was a past president of the Jesup Lions Club. He was a gentle man who enjoyed people, fishing and dancing. Mr. Yount is survived by his wife Georgia Yount of Jesup; two daughters, Vicky (Bob) Ryherd of Ankeny, Mary (Craig) Clark of Waterloo, four sons, James (Deborah) Yount of Auburn, AL, Robert (Paula) Yount of Waterloo, William Yount of Greenfield, and John (Betsy) Yount of Northampton, MA; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Newberry of Cedar Falls. His parents preceded him in death. |
